View Full Version : Woo hoo !! Finally done buying automobiles !!

I have honestly been shopping for automobiles since late '07. I wanted a low mileage '04 (or later) Nissan Quest SE silver or smoke in color with rouge interior. I finally found a smoke colored one with 26,000 miles about 250 miles away in Tennessee in early Febuary. I drove up there and bought it. It was expensive, so I will probably keep it for about 50 years. Actually, it was expensive, so it was time to look for ME a car to toy around in and drive back and forth to work.
I wanted a Nissan 240SX convertible, but there were only 8320 of them made and that was back in 92-94. I figured I might have to get a Sebring to get a Vert that I like. I searched and searched and last Friday I finally found a red 240SX vert for sale in Atlanta on Craigslist. By the time I contacted the guy, I was third inline to look at it. It was Easter weekend as well and I figured I wouldn't get the car. Come Easter Sunday, the guy contacted me again and said.... "come look at it." I arrived at his place about 2:30 PM Monday. He was asking $3k, but I managed to talk him down to $2850. Here is my baby. These are the pictures the previous owner took to sell it. They could be better, but I haven't took any myself yet.
Now that my car buying is over with, maybe I can get back to harassing people on message boards.

Well it is just a four cylinder. It has 165 HP (which according to the conversion table that is 167.29 PS.) The car is lightweight so it does ok. There are many aftermarket parts available for the motor like turbochargers, headers etc. if I wanted to make it quicker. With the price of gasoline.... I would hate to sacrifice the fuel economy though. I get about 26mpg (a little less than 9l per 100km) with mixed city and highway driving. I really like the car though. I don't think there is another model of mine in my town. There are some hardtops, but not the convertibles (cabriolet.)

I will be happy to find you one Urban. Just remember there is a 10% acquisition fee assessed to the total price I pay for my expert services. >:D
No what would you like ? A Ferrari ? You could always go with a nice Jaguar like your fellow Swede Yngwie likes to drive.
Actually, I found you a couple. They are real beauties......

Well Mr. Breed....... it is true that gas has been expensive in Europe for a long time, but we have had a 300% increase here lately. It makes a big difference to people that have to budget their money.
I have NEVER been one to think I am better than anyone else, because I am an American, nor do I think another country is "below" America. I am a wordly person, obviously with a Japanese wife.......... but......we live in a global economy. America is still the economic Superpower of the world and the middle-class support this economy.
When the middle-class Americans buy less products because they have to pay more at the gas pump, it affects EVERY country. The economy always has highs and lows. That is the nature of the beast, but ALL markets will follow the US market and the US market will not recover until America can drive where the hell they want to again.

And still you have a long way to go to even come close to prices in Europe in general and Sweden in particular. ;)

On the contrary, my love, I think we are up to about half your gas prices now... assuming you're somewhere around 12-14 kr per liter still (approx. $7-8/gallon; we are now topping $3.50). I believe we were at roughly 20-25% of your Swedish gas prices when I first fell in love with you. ;)
My first trip to Sweden, for anyone who cares, was 10 years ago, in 1998. Gas prices there were about 8-9 kr/liter, while here I could get gas for less than $1 a gallon (or somewhat less than 2 kr/liter). Swedish prices have gone up, what, about 50% in that time, while American prices have more than tripled. Not to whine, but it's a HUGE increase in a short time, and Bryant's right, it puts tremendous strain on those of us who don't have much extra money.
That being said, I'm sick and f***ing tired of all these jackasses in their humungous SUVs flying by me when I'm sticking to the speed limit... gas prices must not be that bad if no one else feels like they need to modify their driving habits. :p Rant over!!

Oh so that is why Volvo finally started making automobiles aero9dynamic as opposed to a box on wheels. :D

Life rule #1..... Bryant is ALWAYS right.
Life rule #2...... if Bryant isn't right, see rule #1.
Ha ha ha ha..... just joking, of course.
As I said in an earlier reply, the middle-class Americans make this country work. I should reiterate, actually. The RESPONSIBLE middle-class Americans are what make this country work. The problem is..... we have NO representation in the federal government. The Democrats bend over backwards for the poor and special interest groups, while the Republicans make sure the wealthy stay that way.
The housing crash came to light because a bunch of idiots bought houses they couldn't afford, trying to live the "American Dream" of more is better. The same applies to those people that bought the gas guzzling rides (trucks not withstanding for those that need them btw.) I stated that America is the economic superpower of the world. That might be true, but we have too many flipping idiots that overextend themselves trying to "keep up with the Joneses." Money is a necessity as it is a means to take care of yourself and your family. Everyone needs money and we would all like to have more..... but......
One of the biggest problems in society today is that too many people in this world live their life to pursue money. There is nothing wrong with doing that to a degree. I think that entrepreneurship is a great thing, but people put the love of money over the love of family, friends etc. too often.
I personally feel like I should spend more time with my Son than I do, but I am home with him and interract with him EVERY day as opposed to being away all of the time trying to become wealthy. I have the luxury of having many hobbies due to the fact I don't spend my life trying to become wealthy. I want to pass on my love of music, mechanics and other hobbies to my boy.
I don't know where in the hell I am going with this post, but we need the activity here anyway.

Life rule #1..... Bryant is ALWAYS right.
Life rule #2...... if Bryant isn't right, see rule #1.
I was told once that the rule says Shaye and not Bryant.
Luckily I don't pay much attention to rules.
I have the luxury of having many hobbies due to the fact I don't spend my life trying to become wealthy.
Which is exactly how it should be.
Sadly this also means someone else with a completely different view on life will be making the rules.

I apologize for my strange reply.... at least you were able to make some sense out of it. I was a few beers past being able to keep my typing up with my thoughts.
To add to my thoughts about money though...... this is the Urban Breed forum, not the money forum. We aren't here because we love money. We are here because we love Urban Breed's music........ including me. I think you are one of the best vocalist there is in metal. I sometimes shy away from complimenting you here because I know you personally, but I am not simply here because I like you personally (which I do because you are a bit weird like I am) but I am also a fan.
In all seriousness of the post.... I am a redneck metal-head. I live in the country. I make my own rules here in Bryantland. I don't care what cars other people drive. I don't care how big other people's houses are. I invite everyone here on the UB forum to come visit me. You can come drive my convertible and my tractor. I have a spare room, a couch that pulls out into a bed and some empty floor space as well. You can help my wife water the garden, we can cool off in my shallow above-ground pool. We need to have a big party !!
That sounds silly, but it actually makes sense in this thread. People on this board won't come to my house for the party because either they don't want to or mostly because they don't have the money to. If they lived their life thinking about making money then they wouldn't ever even dream of coming to Bryant's house for a party. Everyone here can at least think about saving money up and coming to Bryant's for a party one day. Am I wrong ?
Bryant
Which is exactly how it should be.
Sadly this also means someone else with a completely different view on life will be making the rules.
