Do you like these five songs?
Have you even heard them?
Join the Parade, Planet P Project, 1931 (Go Out Dancing part I), (2004)
If I could Live Forever, Magnum, Magnum II, (1979)
Gigolo (Greek version), Helena Paparizou, Gigolo (CD-Single), (2006)
Self Portrait, Rainbow, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, (1975)
The Turn of a Friendly Card, Alan Parsons Project, The Turn of a Friendly Card, (1980)
Reply and then ask about five other songs...
You can, and possibly should, reply to the first post, even if somebody else already did.
You should, however, not add your five songs to that post. That's reserved for the first reply to that post.
So be quick! :)
and keep it rolling...

Heard, I like that one since it has such variety.
Heard. Magnum always goes home for me... so yes I like it
Heard, Not My type of music, Its okey
Heard, Not like that as much as other song with them,
Heard, this song maks me calm...and when a certain person starts joining in on the singing it gives me the shivers...
The Five new songs.

Alive, Pearl Jam, Ten, 1992

Dan's song's
My Friends, Red Hot Chili Peppers, One Hot Minute, 1984: Must've heard, don't remember it :)
Alive, Pearl Jam, Ten, 1992: Love it
Goodnight America, Tony Carey, The long road, 1992: Don't remember ever hearing
I am, Kid Rock, Kid Rock, 2003: AFAIK, never heard; can't stand Kid Rock in general
Easter, Marillion, Season's End, 1989: ADORE it. One of the few guitar solos that really moves me, and the lyrics... wow! and the rest of the song ain't bad either... beautiful, beautiful song.
As for Urban's 5... I think I have heard all 5 (except possibly the Magnum tune), and honestly I can say I'm not crazy about any of them. The rainbow is okay from what I remember, but like Dan, I prefer other of their songs vastly.
My 5:
Take On Me - A-ha
Cannibal Surf Babe - Marillion
Someone Else? - Queensrÿche
Cardinal Sin - Conception

Take On Me - A-ha
Quite good pop song. Excellent vocal delivery.
Cannibal Surf Babe - Marillion
Woa! Talk about picking the worst song off the album. I'm not usually in favor of mellow songs and I have more than just asoft spot for up-tempo rocking songs but this one I find not just a little annoying. Sorry Shaye. Good thing I don't mind you shooting down my favorite songs either. :)
Someone Else? - Queensrÿche
I bet I haven't heard it. It's probably on one of their complete dud albums. :)
Cardinal Sin - Conception
Excellent pick. This song is so good that you might as well not bother with any other song of that album. Seriously. I'd rather spin that song ten times over. It's that much better and that's not saying the rest of the album is bad.
Sadeness - Enigma
Never heard. I don't think.

I have 2-3 versions of Somebody you can hear... and I will make it a point to let you listen to all this other stuff you've not heard that I have. Btw, you HAVE heard Someone Else?... it's on Promised Land. :) Not a dud at all. :P

I'm not so sure I did hear it. At least not in its entirety. I mean, if it's on Promised Land, I'm likely to have hit that very useful "next track"-button very early on. :)

2. Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
3. The Dolphins Cry - Live

1. Hmm, strange. I know I've heard it. I just can't remember it at all.
2. It is quite good. Can't say I remember the last time I felt I had to listen to it though.
3. What? Never heard.

The Turn of a Friendly Card, Alan Parsons Project, The Turn of a Friendly Card, (1980)
I have never even heard of the first three.
I know "Self Portrait" and I like it. I enjoy early Dio, but prefer his work with Sabbath and early solo work the best.
I am surprised you are a fan of the Alan Parsons Project. Although mostly a metal fan in the 80's, I had somehow gotten into Asia and a couple of my older friends introduced me to APP. I was a bit hot and cold on them.
My selections:
1: Metal Church - "Blessing in Disguise " ........."powermetal" at it's best.
2: Vanden Plas - "Christ 0" ............ redifining what prog-metal can be.
3: Accept "Metal Heart" ..... Balls to the what ? This was this mighty band's pinnacle.
4: Blackfoot - "Strikes" The Southern rock band for people who don't like Southern Rock.
5: Kansas - "Point of Know return" - pop hooks proggish substance. First class band.

Alive, Pearl Jam, Ten, 1992
Goodnight America, Tony Carey, The long road, 1992
I am, Kid Rock, Kid Rock, 2003

Although I am not a big fan of RHCP, if you listen to a song by them five times, it is indefinitely stuck in your head.
Pearl Jam "Ten" is a classic even if you hate the 90's grunge stuff. "Alive" is one of the many great songs from the disc.
Don't know Tony carey....
Kid Rock is not one of my faves, but much like RHCP, he gets into your head and there is an honesty there despite the mixture of cultures his style represents.
Don't like Marillion.

What the hell is za Cannibal Surf Babe ? Don't do Marillion dear... sorry.
Very good song from a very underrated QR release. Love it !!
Conception ? I have about the same sentiments for Kahn as you do for Nils K. Rue. The band sounds good until he opens his mouth. I don't "hate" him, as he has some emotics to him, but he is cheesy...
Don't know Enigma...

I know a few Uriah Heep songs, most not by name. Not bad.
Love Pink Floyd. I am a HUUUUUGE Gilmour fan. He is in my top five guitarists of all-time.
Live is not bad at all. I know that song title though I can not recall the melody...
Don't know any Brian May solo, but I like some Queen. Might be good stuff.

I am surprised you are a fan of the Alan Parsons Project.
I was a bit hot and cold on them. We have that in common then. I have a few favorite songs, (some are really all time favorites), but then don't particularily care for the rest...
1: Metal Church - "Blessing in Disguise "
So you decided against picking separate songs and just went for the whole album? :) I know how much you love this so I bet it was tough, (and quite possibly pointless?), trying to pick just one track. I vastly prefer 'Fake Healer' over the rest of the songs on this release. It has one of those riffs I would've just loved having come up with myself. ;) ...but yes, I like it! :)
Vanden Plas - "Christ 0"
I am not even remotely surprised. :) Shaye played this to me and while good I am not overly fond of it. I guess I'm not in the prog metal mode at the moment. :D ...No, I don't like this. Not now. Possibly later. :)
Accept "Metal Heart"
A few really good moments here. However, I believe the lows offset this so to me the mighty 'Balls to the Wall' still reigns supreme but yes, I like it. I do.
Blackfoot - "Strikes"
Anders must've played this to me at one point or another but I've a hard time distinguishing what's what and who's who in this genre. I don't know if I like it or not.
Kansas - "Point of Know return"
I've heard kansas, don't know if this is something I really like. Recommended track?
Ah, so it's time for my next five tracks? :)
Voyeur (I'm watching you), Lizzy Borden, Visual Lies, (1987)
-Cringeworthy lyrics aside, this is brilliant! Love that opening riff!
Wind Him Up, Saga, Worlds Apart, (1981)
-With better production... oh, my... :) There's always the 'In Transit'
Version. The production is not much better but then it's a live album
and still possibly better. :)
We Agree, Yes, Magnification, (2001)
-"When we are one
Seen through the eyes of child
We will perpetuate this song of love
(perpetuate this Song of love)" ...Doesn't get much better than this!
Not for the Innocent, Kiss, Lick it Up, (1983)
-Kiss needs Vinnie Vincent's songwriting if you ask me.
Solitaire, Jethro Tull, from the so called 'Chateau D'Isaster Tapes', (recorded 1972)
-I have this on the '20 years of Jethro Tull' (vinyl) compilation, (1988)
and the 'Night Cap' (CD) compilation, (1993)

Since you are a big RJD fan, I already assumed BttW would be your favorite Accept release. Not that Accept sounds anything like Rainbow, Dio or Sabbath, but BttW has a bit of a "mystical" feel to it in several places even though the lyrics themselves rarely do and tend to be a bit strange. BttW is my second fave Accept release and there are times I prefer it over MH, but the intensity of MH is what makes it tick. Songs like Too High to get it Right, Wrong is Right and Up to the Limit are some of the most intense music ever laid into vinyl. I would put it up against any of the extreme metal or early 90's thrash as far as the intensity level. If Udo screamed any harder, his lungs would have flown out of his chest. I listen to that CD and I want to break something. I tend to not listen to it at high volumes when driving as I don't think my mini-van is very stable when making the jump to hyperspace, as for some reason my left foot gets very heavy when I play that release.
As far as Kansas is concerned, they are iconic in the US. I would go as far as to say, they are most likely the second biggest prog-rock band (outside of Rush) as far as record sales in the US. I use the term "prog-rock loosely. Many "proggers" would consider them AOR, but in any case, they are a very big band here and are played often on classic rock radio. I suppose the "standout" tracks would be the two singles released from the album which is "Point of Know return" and "Dust in the Wind."
I don't mean to stray off of the subject, but I was talking to a very good net friend of mine who is French and he did not know who Brad Delp was, nor knew who Boston was except in name only. THis guy, despite being quite young (24 maybe) is a guru of music, but somehow Boston never made an impact on France. I am a fairly worldly person with friends all over the world and am not one that thinks America is "better" than other countries etc. etc. but I was frankly shocked Boston didn't make an impact on Europe. Would it be safe to say Kansas also is fairly unknown in Sweden ?

I can't place the particular Borden song, but I actually liked some of their stuff. Lizzy was a pretty good vocalist and many of the songs were well written. The whole "image" thing was really goofy though.
I saw Saga open for Heart in around 1985-86 and they were absolutely terrible. I only knew a couple of their hit songs, so I never investigated them further. Maybe it was just an off night, but it left a bad impression on me.
I need to check out that CD. I like a good bit of the Yes I have heard (mostly late 70's- early 80's.) Of course Chris Squire is one of the most bad-ass bassists ever to pick up a low-axe. I was playing "Roundabout" one day on stage, then my wife woke me up. >:0
Hmmm..... I like Kulick era Kiss. Crazy Nights and Asylum are my faves. Some of it is goofy, but it is Kiss...... most is goofy in a good way. I'll look for that song though. I can't put my finger on it.
Can't say that I know that JT song either. THey are not for me. I respect their originality to a big degree. No one else sounds like them, but they have never done much for me.
Bryant
Now my five (songs this time not albums)
1) Goo Goo Dolls - Iris - Dizzy Up the Girl.
If you were to put a gun to my head and demanded me to name a vocalist that has more emotics in his/her voice, you would have to hit a moving target because I would immediately get up and run. Call The Goos "bubblegum" or what you will, but Rzeznik bleeds his soul into his songs like no other.
2) Black Sabbath - Cross of Thorns - Cross Purposes. Tony Martin is a Godly vocalist who gets very little respect. Though the songwriting was hit and miss in the Martin era as well, Iommi did some of his best guitar work.
3) Tad Morose - Afraid to Die - Modus Vivendi. Am I trying to schmooz with the administrator with this selection ? Nah. In fact, it is the opposite..... I bet Urban doesn't even know the words to it. I think it is an extremely underrated gem by the TM guys.
4) Slayer - Dead SKin Mask - Seasons in the Abyss. I always thought of Slayer as a 1000 mph thrash band with no feeling. That release changed my mind. Great song and great CD.
5) Styx - The Best of Times - Paradise Theater/The best of Styx. I was listening to the Alan Handelman show (for non-Americans it is basically a rock and roll talk show) and they had Tommy Shaw (guitarist of Styx) as a guest and this guy is absolutely incredible as a person, guitarist, singer and songwriter. I had to go back and listen to some old Styx. Great stuff. I bet he can come close to singing like Dennis (styx lead vocalist.)

Boston.
Were never really big around here. Not BIG big anyway. Almost everyone would probably recognize one of "their" biggest hits but when asked they'd have a hard time identifying the artist.
Many "proggers" would consider them AOR
I always thought of them as a "bearded" :) hard rock band with a tendency towards AOR.
Would it be safe to say Kansas also is fairly unknown in Sweden ?
Quite safe. I bet everyone into hard rock have heard the name but somehow I think about half of them never actually heard more than the odd song once or twice.

Of course Chris Squire is one of the most bad-ass bassists ever to pick up a low-axe.He is rather good. And more importantly, I think he plays what needs to be played, and this in a progressive rock type of band!

I can play this over and over and over and over and, well, you get the idea.

Okay, that settles it... party at your place, and I'll bring my cassette of "Visual Lies." Assuming it hasn't melted and I can find it. :P

I like this one. I am not as big on the Goo Goo Dolls as you, needless to say, but I like the couple of songs I've heard just fine.
2) Black Sabbath - Cross of Thorns - Cross Purposes. Tony Martin is a Godly vocalist who gets very little respect. Though the songwriting was hit and miss in the Martin era as well, Iommi did some of his best guitar work.
Good song, great vocals. Urban made a mixed CD with this on it that I listened to quite a bit even when he wasn't here. :)

One of the better tracks on MV, definitely--Urban is right. :) In fact, I've tried to elicit a promise that should Urban ever play any TM live again, he do this song.
4) Slayer - Dead SKin Mask - Seasons in the Abyss. I always thought of Slayer as a 1000 mph thrash band with no feeling. That release changed my mind. Great song and great CD.
Funny, I was talking to Urban about Seasons just yesterday and explaining that it was their most melodic offering by far. This song in particular captures creepiness so well. I really wish Slayer had gone down this road further... the next album was the last one I bought, and they did a complete 180 on it... back to the straight-ahead, rip-your-face-off thrash. not a bad thing, but I just preferred Seasons.
I don't recall this one, but I like most of what I've heard of Styx.

Definitely need to check out some Goo Goo Dolls. Though they may be "power-pop" they are the best at what they do and Rzeznik is one of the last great "crooners" out there. He can make you "feel" the songs he sings and his guitar work (though not very technical) is very emotic as well.
Can't say much about the POS. You know me.... I think POS is one of those bands that has very little middle ground. Either you "get" them or you don't and I fall into the latter. I am sure they have quite a bit to offer for people that like them because I have several friends with exquisite musical taste that are into them, but they just sound flat out "weird" to me.
Don't know much Melissa Ethridge, but there is a local girl here in Columbus that covers quite a bit of her stuff and she is down right incredible. Of course "Come to My Window" was her highlight, but she covered several songs by her. I may have heard it.
Pantera put out two GREAT releases, CFH and VDoP. "Walk" is probably my favorite track from the latter. Great song and oustanding riffage from the great Diamond Darrell.
Sepultura was a good band for me, but the vocals left me wanting more. I remember the song pretty well and liked it quite a bit. I can remember when they were your absolute favorite band.
JonnyD wants to give you a hug for recognizing Overkill. They were a steadfast band that consistantly released good music for years. That is hard to find. Totally underrated band and a very good song by them as well.

I like this one. I am not as big on the Goo Goo Dolls as you, needless to say, but I like the couple of songs I've heard just fine..
Now I have to come up with 5? Okay... let's see...
Used - Pain of Salvation
Similar Features - Melissa Ethridge
Walk - Pantera
Dead Embryonic Cells - Sepultura
Hello From the Gutter - Overkill
I guess I am revisiting my teen years a bit there. :)

Whitesnake was very good and very bad. This band had more guitar greats than Ozzy. "Slow and easy" was a good song by them.
I forget the Asian guy's name that plays guitar for this band, but he has the most beautiful guitar (the natural wood grained Ibanez) and hair I have ever seen. If I won the lottery, one of the first things I would buy would be the guitar he plays. As far as the music........ ehhh..... a little too fast with little emotion in it. The talent is there in vocals and instrumentation, but songwriting could be better.
Have to wait for Urban to reply on Genesis. I am not a big fan of them. Maybe I should check them out a little more closely.
Only know this "they Might be Giants" band by name only.
JT was/is a visionary. Not my thing, but certainly unique. THey have my applause.
My five for today:
Coroner - "Pale Sister" from Mental Vortex. 1991 This band rivals Rush as far as making a lot of great music for three members.
Bon Jovi - "Have a Nice Day" title track from 2005. Was too tough in the 80's to like this band. Made a mistake. HOF band !
Brooks and Dunn - "She's Not the CHeating Kind" don't know the year. If anyone pokes at me for listening to a country song, I'll hit you in the mouth >:P~ While I do dabble in some Southern Rock a bit, I only know this song because the guys at work on the shift before me like country and the shop radio is often on a country station. I might as well buy one of these guys' greatest hits, because I have actually heard several songs from them I like over the last 15 years or so. I seriously DO NOT recommend this to anyone else though. This is oldschool style country. I have no idea why I like them.
Maybe the fact that they have sold about 40 gazillion records means they know how to write hooks.
Neil Young - "Needle and the Damage Done" from Decade 1977. Cool folk music.
Powermad - "Nice Dreams" from Absolute Power 1989 ? If you like late 80's speed metal buy this. I typically don't push stuff less about three or four of my fave bands stuff, but this CD is a must. It is out of print though. Great production..... for it's time.
