Ok this question is mainly for Urban but others can answer if you like.

If you could put together what you would consider your perfect band, fronted by yourself, whom would you choose, past or present, and why would you choose them.

This is not a question as easily answered as one might first think. If I would just pick my favorite for each instrument it's quite possible that their styles won't combine very well. On the other hand some interesting unforeseen result is also very much a possibility. Anyway, I'll answer now and possibly revise the list later, ok? Here we go...

Bass: Tony Levin. I often single out his parts when listening to music. His playing adds another dimension to the songs. A part that would otherwise seem mundane is transformed into a living, breathing entity all of it's own because of his playing.

Drums: Mickey Barker. I think his playing is tasteful. Restrained and still powerful enough. And, heh, Vinnie Appice. :) I love how he plays a bit extra when there's room for it. ...and it's loose enough for my taste. Ged Lynch. The playing is just so dynamic. Oh, well, since I'm already there, ;), I'll throw in Manu Katche for good measure.

Guitars: This is a bit trickier since I don't have any favorites as such. Well, maybe I do but can't think of anyone right now. :) But anyway, I'll go for the not so obvious choice and say Tracy G mainly because I love his playing on 'Strange Highways', which I might add is my favorite Dio album. However I'll throw in a few other names if only because I think their style would be right for some of the songs and partly because it would be interesting, Ian Crichton, Michael Wilton, Chris DeGarmo, Ronnie LeTekro, Tore Östby and, well, I'll revise this later for sure. :)

Keyboards: Well, no need really. I'll do it myself but for the sake of upholding the image of being a completionist, :closedeye , Geoff Nicholls, Mark Kelly or possibly Mark Stanway...

What line-up would you pick for me?

Hmmm Guess I too need to think on that. Just off the top on my head (no commit needed yes I'm blonde) I would say..... I'd like to see you do an acoustic set with Eric Clapton. Your right though, you have to consider style and the combination of the different styles of each player. I'm sure I'll come up with more ..... stay tuned

Mine would be like this:

Hansi Kürsch: Vocals (even though I sing, I prefer him singing :P)
Michael Romeo: Guitars (I love his style)
Michael Pinnella: Keyboards (dunno why but I always start dreaming when I listen to his parts)
Mike Smith: Drums (well, I had several options so I decided to choose him, Mike Smith of Suffocation :) )
Bass: Oliver Holzwarth (His work with Sieges Even is great imho and he did help a lot to Blind Guardian to improve its sound)

Who is this Urban guy ? He gets mentioned quite a bit on this forum.....

A band relies on chemistry and songwriting.... so it is tough to pick musicians...... so I will instead pick fave musicians at their craft.

lead guitar #2 your's truly....... could I "front" a band ? No way !! I can dream though.....

Lead guitar #1.... THE one and only Wolf Hoffmann. I refuse to live in the past or present, but NO guitarist had/has the perfect marriage of technical expertice/emotics/note selection and composition that Wolf did/does.

bass..... Francis Bucholz. No, I am not in love with German musicians, but he had that ability to fuse the drums with the guitar while still being able to put his own great riffs and fills in a song without overpowering a guitar attack.

drums... Stian Kristoffersen. Urban loves this guy I am sure due to his great double bass :p Absolutely an incredible drummer !!

keyboardist.... Gunter Werno. There is no close second. He is God on keys.

vocalist..... Tony Martin. He may actually be too old and lost some.... I don't know, but in his prime.... he could be Dio and anyone else he wanted to be. GREAT vocalist !!

songwriter....... Kurdt Vanderhoof. I think the pool may be dry now, but at one time, he was incredible.

Producer..... Dieter Dirks... gotta love the Germans :p

Engineer...... Markus Teske. There is not even a close second. The man at the mixer is a God.
